Description
The Glenrothes 1998 (Bottled 2013) is a vintage single malt Scotch whisky from the Glenrothes distillery in the Speyside region. Bottled in 2013 by the brand's owners (at the time), Berry Brothers & Rudd, this whisky is part of Glenrothes' unique approach of emphasizing maturity over age statements. Berry Brothers & Rudd subsequently sold the brand back to Edrington in 2017.
This whisky is bottled at 43% ABV and is known for its rich and complex flavor profile. The nose offers fragrant and strong sherry notes, with hints of overripe citrus, sticky toffee pudding, and a touch of clove and ginger. On the palate, it has a heavier mouthfeel with sweet syrupy character, reminiscent of a banana split covered in chocolate sauce, along with toasted oak and dark chocolate2. The finish is medium in length, with a warming sensation of cinnamon sticks and roasted black pepper.
The Glenrothes 1998 is highly regarded for its balance and depth, making it a great addition to any whisky collection.
Other Information
Edrington reacquired the Glenrothes single malt brand from Berry Bros. & Rudd in May 2017. Edrington had originally sold the Glenrothes brand to Berry Bros. & Rudd in 2010 but retained ownership of the distillery and cooperage. The reacquisition allowed Edrington to reunite the brand with its distillery and accelerate its growth in international markets.
