Description

Old Pulteney 12 Year Old is a classic single malt Scotch whisky from the Pulteney Distillery, located in the coastal town of Wick in the Highlands of Scotland. This whisky is known for its distinctive maritime character, which is influenced by the distillery's proximity to the sea.

The 12-year-old expression is matured wholly in air-dried, hand-selected ex-bourbon casks, which impart a rich and vibrant flavour profile. The whisky has a deep amber colour with a slight pink hue and a sparkling copper glow.

On the nose, you'll find medium to high intensity with a briny hint of sea air, honeycomb, vanilla tablet, and soft sawdust oakiness. The palate is dry, medium-bodied, and smooth, with flavours of chocolate peanuts, mint, citrus peels, maritime elements, and white pepper. The finish is long-lasting, with notes of toffee, brine, and lemon.

Old Pulteney 12 Year Old is an approachable and enjoyable dram that retains the unique Old Pulteney style, making it a perfect choice for both newcomers and seasoned whisky enthusiasts. The neck of the bottle is shaped in the form of the actual stilla used at the distillery.

Old Pulteney Distillery

Nestled in the coastal town of Wick in the Highlands of Scotland, Old Pulteney Distillery has been crafting exceptional single malt Scotch whisky since 1826. Known as "The Maritime Malt," Old Pulteney captures the essence of its coastal location, with each bottle reflecting the unique maritime character influenced by the sea air and rugged landscape.

The distillery's rich heritage is intertwined with the history of Wick, a town once bustling with herring fishing activity. The whisky is crafted using water sourced from Loch Hempriggs, carried via a lade designed by Scottish engineer Thomas Telford. This pure and soft water is perfect for the mashing and fermentation process, ensuring the highest quality spirit.

Old Pulteney's whisky-making process is a testament to traditional craftsmanship. The distillery uses a 100-year-old Porteus mill to process local un-peated malt barley, and the spirit is distilled in large copper stills with a uniquely shaped boiling ball. The whisky is then matured in American oak and Spanish oak casks, where the surrounding sea air shapes its unmistakable coastal character.

Visitors to Old Pulteney Distillery can enjoy guided tours that offer a fascinating insight into the whisky-making process and the opportunity to taste a range of Old Pulteney single malt whiskies. The distillery's commitment to quality and tradition has earned it a reputation as one of the finest producers of Highland single malt Scotch whisky.

Experience the maritime heritage and craftsmanship of Old Pulteney Distillery, where every drop tells a story of the sea.
