Other Information

Kilbeggan Distillery and Cooley Distillery are both part of the same family under the ownership of Beam Suntory. While Kilbeggan Distillery is known for its rich history and traditional methods, Cooley Distillery, founded in 1987, is a more modern facility located in County Louth, Ireland. Cooley Distillery produces a range of Irish whiskeys, including Kilbeggan, Connemara, Tyrconnell, and Greenore.

So, while Kilbeggan Distillery still exists and operates, it is now part of the larger Cooley Distillery family. Both distilleries contribute to the production of Kilbeggan whiskey and other well-known Irish whiskey brands.

Kilbeggan

Kilbeggan Distillery, located in the heart of Ireland in County Westmeath, is the world's oldest licensed distillery, established in 1757. The distillery is a quintessential example of traditional Irish whiskey-making, with its whitewashed walls, weathered slate roof, brick chimney stack, and creaking timber water wheel. It even has regular ghost sightings, adding to its charm and mystique.

Production ceased in the 1950s. In 1988, Cooley bought the distillery and resumed distilling in 2007, just in time for its 250th anniversary.

The distillery is a real working distillery run by a team of enthusiastic craftspeople skilled in the traditional ways of making Irish whiskey. Visitors can enjoy a fully immersive experience, including guided tours, whiskey tastings, and the opportunity to fill their own bottle of Kilbeggan 'Distillery Exclusive' whiskey directly from the cask.
