Littlemill
Littlemill Distillery, established in 1772, holds the distinction of being Scotland's oldest licensed whisky distillery. Located in Bowling, West Dunbartonshire, it was situated on the border of the Lowlands and Highlands, producing whiskies often classified as Lowland malts. Over its long history, Littlemill pioneered innovative techniques, including the use of rectifying columns for greater control over distillation.
Despite its rich heritage, the distillery faced multiple closures and ownership changes, eventually ceasing production in 1994. The site was dismantled in 1997, and a fire in 2004 marked the end of its physical presence. Today, Littlemill's remaining whiskies are highly sought after by collectors and connoisseurs, offering a rare taste of Scotland's whisky-making legacy.
