The brand was originally created by Peter Thomson in 1922, named after the Gleneagles Hotel in Scotland. Beneagles expanded internationally, and its ceramics became highly sought after, especially among collectors.
Beneagles
Beneagles has a fascinating history rooted in innovation and craftsmanship. The brand was established in 1922 by Peter Thomson, a skilled blender from Perth, Scotland. Named after the iconic Gleneagles Hotel, Beneagles initially gained recognition for its high-quality blended Scotch whisky, crafted predominantly from Speyside malts. The whisky was celebrated for its creamy vanilla notes, a hint of Islay iodine, and a smoky finish.
In the late 1960s, Beneagles introduced a range of ceramic decanters, which became a hallmark of the brand. These decanters featured intricate designs, often depicting Scottish birds of prey like the Golden Eagle and Peregrine Falcon, as well as other cultural symbols such as curling stones and the Loch Ness Monster. These collectible ceramics were highly sought after, especially in international markets.
By the 1970s, Beneagles was among the top whisky brands in Scotland, with its ceramics becoming iconic souvenirs. However, the brand changed ownership multiple times, eventually becoming part of Whyte & Mackay in 1993. While Beneagles is no longer in production, its legacy endures through its collectible decanters, cherished by whisky enthusiasts and collectors alike.
