Other Information
Burnside is a fascinating name in the world of whisky, but it’s not a distillery. It’s name used by independent bottlers to refer to a “teaspooned” malt (Balvenie) and is considered a blended malt despite being a single cask release. It's praised for its complexity and balance, especially appealing to fans of earthier, less overly sweet whiskies.
Teaspooned malt - A single malt whisky with a tiny amount (a teaspoon) of another malt added. This prevents it from being sold as a single malt from the original distillery.
This allows independent bottlers to release high-quality whisky at a lower price, without infringing on the distillery’s brand.
Halcyon
Halcyon Spirits is a premium independent bottler founded by Daniel and Craig Milne, the team behind Whisky Hammer and Still Spirit.
Named in tribute to their grandfather’s fishing boat, Halcyon, the brand embodies nostalgia, craftsmanship, and the pursuit of excellence.
Based in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, Halcyon is known for releasing rare, cask-strength whiskies from its private warehouse of over 2,000 casks.
Each bottling reflects the brand’s commitment to quality, heritage, and sustainability - with every bottle sold funding the planting of 10 trees.
